It's possible I missed it but I can't recall anyone ever mentioning the lake at Baza in this forum.  It's a man-made lake from what I understand, not dissimilar to some of our own in the UK...Rutland Water springs to mind....but it's a nice bit of countryside round those parts and isn't too far from VP.

Because it's away from the usual tourist attractions, prices in local village shops and restaurants tend to be considerably cheaper than on the coast.  I've spent a day up there on three occasions and find it a rather likeable spot when I feel like a break from the beach.

If you're stuck for somewhere to go for a day when you've had enough sun, I'd recommend it.

Sounds good can you recommend hotels or B & Bs in the area as I think you need at least one night up there to do it justice

I'm sorry Vera Natura but as I have never stayed overnight in that area, I'm unable to recommend anywhere.
For what it's worth though, if you could be persuaded to make a daytrip to have a cursory look at the area, it's easily achievable.

When I first drove there, I had an early breakfast & drove fairly leisurely up the motorway arriving in the area late morning before getting out of the car and doing a walking tour.  I moved on by car and found one of the local towns where I did a bit more exploring on foot before driving on a bit further, ending up in a pretty village where I had a late lunch.

After a bit more touring both by car and on foot, I headed back towards VP, stripped off and had a couple of drinks before strolling round to Hotel St for dinner.

There's a fair bit of material on the net if you care to look and I'm pretty sure you will find links to accommodation somewhere.  Although I had heard that the lake was man-made, I read online that it is the largest man-made lake in europe but whether that's fact or just tourist board guff, I really don't know.  Certainly, Kielder Water must be amongst the largest but Google produces a bunch of different claims, depending on which site you visit.  Regardless, it's a pretty area and you get that feeling of stepping back to the 1950s when you visit there after the over-commercialised coastal areas......a bit like Lincolnshire really!

You are correct though in that a couple or three days would provide for a more relaxed and informative tour of the area than can ever be achieved in a daytrip.

Thanks for raising this Indalo.

There was a thread that I started on this. (Lake Negratin) but it is victim to the innactive thread chopper.  Sad

This was why I think this folder (at least) should have been spared.

I will raise my questions again latter (possibly)  Huh

Link to info on Baza -http://www.viva-granada.com/baza_p105.php

I assume the lake you refer to is Negratin.

There are several warm springs in the area and the largest is on the lakeside and look lovely. (Banos de Zujar)

Has anyone been to these or other springs?
Can they be used naturist?
Are there other naturist opportunities around the lake?
